Dear Community Partners and Friends,

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the Jacksonville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. As Chapter President, I am honored to lead this esteemed Chapter and to work alongside such dedicated individuals who are committed to serving our community and empowering our youth.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. holds a special place in the hearts of families across the nation, and here in Jacksonville, we are proud to continue the legacy of excellence and service that has defined our organization for decades.  In 1938, the idea for Jack and Jill was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Our founder, Marion Stubbs Thomas, recognized that there were limited opportunities for African American children.  Twenty mothers came together to create an organization to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for youth. Today, the organization boasts 262 chapters throughout the United States.  The Jacksonville Chapter was chartered in 1968.  Throughout our Chapter’s  history, the members have worked tirelessly to be an asset to our community both collectively and individually.

The bedrock of the organization is children’s programming.  Our Chapter’s preeminent community event is the Les Beautillion Militaire.  The first Beautillion was hosted in 1987.  Since then, hundreds of young men have benefitted from the workshops, camaraderie, and the journey into manhood which has culminated in their presentation to society atthe Les BeautillionMilitaire.  Proceeds from this event are used to fund the Shannon Smith McCants Memorial and L.E.A.D. (Leaders Emerging As Dreamers) Scholarships that were established by our Chapter to benefit college students in the attainment of their goals and dreams Our chapter is comprised of passionate parents who understand the importance of fostering leadership, cultural awareness, and academic success in our children.

I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to our members and community partners who make our work possible. Your unwavering support and dedication are truly appreciated, and I am continually inspired by your passion and commitment to our shared mission.

As we look ahead to the future, I am filled with hope and optimism for what we can accomplish together. With your continued support and dedication, I have no doubt that we will continue to serve as a beacon of light and inspiration for generations to come.

Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of serving our community, and I look forward to the incredible journey ahead.

Warm regards,

Latasha Garrison Cook
